Survey Shows Telecom Executives Expect Market to Rebound Within the Next 12 Months
Despite Optimism, Many Plan to Carefully Research Companies Before Accepting Job OffersVirginia Beach, Virginia – September 10, 2001
Despite layoffs at major telecom companies like Lucent, Cicso and Nortel, telecom executives are optimistic about recovery. According to the results of a survey conducted by TD Madison & Associates, an executive search firm that specializes in serving emerging high technology and telecommunications companies, 63 percent of the 440 telecom managers surveyed feel that the telecom industry will rebound within the next 12 months. In addition, 80 percent predict that broadband and wireless services will account for most of the growth and will become the backbone for the industry."This has been a difficult year for the telecom industry, but executives feel confident that the market will turn around within the next year," said T. Dean Madison, president of TD Madison & Associates. "In addition, there's a new commitment to performance and finding smarter ways to manage companies. In the past year, we've seen a continued demand for executives with operations experience, the time-tested individuals who will help the telecom market return to profitability."
While optimistic about the industry's recovery, telecom executives have learned from the rapid rise and fall of dot.com companies and are taking an educated approach to their job search.
- 48 percent said that they no longer consider stock options to be a major factor when considering job offers. Instead, 83 percent rank salary as the most important factor.
- 59 percent feel that a company's business model and management team are the most important thins to evaluate when considering an offer from a start-up company.
- More than half of those surveyed will accept a moderate amount of risk in a job position. Sixty percent said they would prefer a competitive salary, medium equity and a medium risk job.
