TD Madison and Associates' Vice President Addresses ASCENT Conference

Virginia Beach, Virginia – January 10, 2003
Robert P. Wohlfarth, Vice President of TD Madison and Associates, recently addressed the Association of Communication Enterprises (ASCENT) conference in Orlando, Florida.

“The communications industry is facing a critical stage in their development” states Robert Wohlfarth. “ The keys to success right now are to focus on execution, remain disciplined and look for ways to improve the talent base in your company. One of the positive results of the fallout of the telecommunications industry is that there are now a plethora of highly skilled executives in the market. Three years ago, the labor shortage forced companies to hire employees that might not have had the skill set necessary to do the job. There is an abundance of talent out there right now and the smart companies are choosing to upgrade their talent pool.”

Mr. Wohlfarth addressed the need to make smarter hiring decisions. “Most hiring is done via one or a series of personal interviews. These interviews focus mainly on the skill sets of the job, that is the knowledge aspect of the job, like understanding a particular computer language like XML. We suggest that the interviewer learn how to behaviorally interview rather than evaluate potential employees on skill sets. It has been shown in hundreds of studies that behavioral style interviewing is up to 5 times more effective than traditional interviewing. Nationwide employee turnover, which is the eventual end result of a bad hire is costing businesses over $900 billion.”
