GCI, Alaska’s largest communications provider, engaged TD Madison to find their next Vice President of Network Operations in 2018. GCI provides wireless, data, voice, and managed services to businesses and consumers across Alaska. It owns and operates statewide communications networks, providing wired and wireless connectivity to hundreds of thousands of residences and commercial properties.
GCI sought an executive with a background in advanced telecommunications systems, including experience in fiber transport, satellite communications, and microwave communication technologies. Their new VP of Network Operations would be responsible for developing and implementing a strategic vision for the company’s networks, supporting all operational networks, and managing capital and budget objectives to meet financial goals and service delivery expectations.
TD Madison completed an exhaustive search and recruitment program, identifying, assessing, and interviewing suitable candidates in collaboration with GCI executives. The company selected Chris Burns as the strongest candidate. Burns was previously COO at Whidbey Technologies and has many years of leadership experience in the telecoms sector. Burns was appointed GCI Vice President of Network Operations in 2018 and remains in that position today.
